Paper Abstract:      In this paper, students’ perceptions, on the use of Virtual Environments (VEs) as learning aids, were explored in a pilot study with students in a final year undergraduate Algorithms course. Students in the course were exposed to three VEs during the course of the semester and a sample of 23 were surveyed at the end of the course. Generally, there was agreement that using VEs can assist learning, reduce feelings of apprehension and boredom, are well suited for presenting material of varying levels of difficulty, and that they are well suited for tutorial and lab sessions. However, students generally disagreed with the view that VEs are best suited for teaching males.
